The OU Book Club has long been one of OLLI’s most outstanding programs. Led by Dr. Rufus Fears, the discussion group focuses on a different classic work of literature each month.
This year the topic will be Life lessons from the Great Books with themes of love, patriotism and conquering the human spirit.

About the Professor
Rufus Fears is David Ross Boyd Professor of Classics at the University of Oklahoma, where he holds the G.T. and Libby Blankenship Chair in the History of Liberty.
Professor Fears earned his doctorate degree from Harvard University and is a fellow of many distinguished organizations, such as the American Academy in Rome, the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, and the Guggenheim Foundations. Prior to taking his post at the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Fears held teaching positions at Indiana University and Boston University, where he served as chair of the Department of Classical Studies.
A 21-time award winner for outstanding teaching, he was chosen as Indiana University’s first-ever Distinguished Faculty Research Lecturer and has three times been named "Professor of the Year" by the University of Oklahoma. He won the 2005 Excellence in Teaching Award from the Classical Association of the Middle West and South.
